  • Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is located about 90 miles west of Las Vegas in the Amargosa Valley of southern Nye County. The refuge was created in 1984. Its more than 23,000 acres of spring-fed wetlands and alkaline desert uplands protects at least 24 species of animals and plants found nowhere else in the world.
  • Desert National Wildlife Range is located approximately 20 miles northwest of Las Vegas, off Highway 95. The refuge was created in 1936 to preserve and manage the desert bighorn sheep and its habitat. Spanning more than 1.6 million acres, it is the largest unit in the National Wildlife Refuge System outside of Alaska.
  • Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is located 93 miles northeast of Las Vegas in Lincoln County, Nevada. The refuge was established in 1963 as a habitat for migratory birds, especially waterfowl. Pahranagat's lakes and marshes are a rare sight in this part of Nevada.
  • Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge is located approximately 60 miles north of Las Vegas on 106 acres in northeastern Clark County. It was established in 1979 to secure habitat for the endangered Moapa dace, a small fish commonly found throughout the headwaters of the Muddy River system. Because of its size, fragile habitats, and ongoing restoration work, the refuge is closed to the general public.
