  • Lake Mead National Recreation Area (NRA) is located approximately 30 miles from Las Vegas. There are a few options to get to Lake Mead, depending on which area of the lake you want to visit. One option is to take US 95 South to Boulder City. At the second stoplight ( Nevada Highway and Buchanan Blvd.) turn left. Proceed 4 miles on US 93 to the main Lake Mead National Recreation Area turnoff. Created in 1936, Lake Mead NRA, which now includes both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, has a wide range of available recreational opportunities. With 1.5 million acres and nearly 1,000 miles of shoreline, it is a startling contrast of desert and water, mountains and canyons, primitive backcountry and busy marinas.
